There are many causes for hyperpigmentation on face. It is the darkening of an area in the skin or nails that is due to an increase in melanin. Melanin is the natural pigment that is responsible for color for the body such as in the skin, hair and eyes. It could be from inflammation, skin injury or sun damage. UV stimulates the activity of melanocytes and affects hyper pigmentation so excessive sun exposure can be the most that affect the condition.

This can also be a manifestation that would be associated in a number of conditions and diseases. Adrenal insufficiency is one. With this, hormones which stimulate melanin synthesis will be elevated. Addison's disease is one where there would be increased tanning manifested. Melasma, smoker's melanosis and Cushing's disease are a few of the other conditions which can exhibit the condition. It can be induced as well by dermatological laser procedures.

Knowing the common causes may be the key for proper prevention. One effective means for preventing this would be avoiding sun exposure. There would be hours in the day when it is best to avoid the sun as it is when it is most damaging. It helps to avoid going out at such times. It is between ten AM and four PM.

A sunscreen can be an important tool that would protect the skin. There would be ingredients there that protects from the harmful rays of the sun. Various types in sunscreens are widely available which would make the selection of sunscreens quite confusing. You need to choose the type that can offer you with the most protection. A sunscreen can work in two methods, one would be to scatter light and another to absorb light before it would even reach your skin.

Broad spectrum sunscreens would be ideal to use. This protects one from UVA and UVB rays. The SPF will rate the efficacy of the sunscreen in preventing sunburn from UVB. This is the number that gets multiplied by the number of minutes one usually would get a sunburn to get the amount of time that it offers protection.

UVA protection will not have ratings to indicate efficacy so the ingredients would have to be looked into. Take note if the sunscreen lists any on the following, oxybenzone, avobenzone, sulisobenzone, ecamsule, zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Ensuring one is present will help one to safeguard one's skin.

How sunscreens are worn is important too. It should be applied 15 to 30 minutes before going out. Two tablespoons would be enough for the entire body. Be sure to cover areas that are easy to miss like the tip of the ears, feet and bald spots. It should be reapplied every two hours at least.

There are other ways to prevent this too like avoiding the use of products that are irritating to the skin as injury can cause hyper pigmentation. It helps to stay hydrated too. A plumper skin would be healthier. Moisturizing helps as well. It helps for circulation and to keep cells healthful.

Hyperpigmentation on face may be a challenging problem. There can be treatments for it however it still would be best that it is prevented. Keeping the skin healthy can be quite beneficial and would avoid having various skin conditions.
